1. What does a recording studio gift experience include?
A private studio session with professional guidance by music producer Iain McKinna, a high-quality recording, mixing, and a mastered track to take home.
4. Do I need to be a professional singer or musician?
Not at all. We welcome beginners, enthusiasts, and professionals alike. Our producer tailors each session to your comfort and goals.
Yes, guests are welcome. Many bring a partner or friend for support or to sing together.
3. How do I redeem my gift voucher?
Simply visit the Gift Redemption page contact us by email or phone to arrange your preferred date. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
6. Can I choose the song I record?
Yes. Bring your own music, backing track, or ideas — we’ll handle the rest professionally in our Royal Mile studio.
7. Does it include session musicians?
The Record Your Own Song Experience includes session playing by Iain McKinna on Guitars/Bass/Drums and Synths. Or any combination that suits your song
10. I'm really nervous about performing, can you help?
We understand that recording for the first time can be a little nerve racking. It's our job to out you at your ease and we guarantee you will overcome your nerves with our support and enjoy a confidence boosting experience.
8. I'm working through the week, is that a problem?
We can conduct sessions on evenings and weekends too if required. We are a working pro studio so we can be booked on weekdays on commercial projects but if you book in advance we will do our best to prioritise your booking.
4. Do you provide backing tracks and can you send them in advance of my experience??
Definitely, they are included and we are happy to send in advance for practise purposes
9. I don't play an instrument, is that a problem
No, we work with many singers and even lyricists who don't play an instrument. Just let us know when you redeem your voucher what you want to achieve.
6. Are you centrally located??
Our Location is bang in the middle of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. If you get lost just ask any Japanese tourist :-)
Creative Retreats FAQ
1. What is a Creative Retreat?
A two-day stay beside our studio with recording, writing, or production time in a relaxed, inspiring setting.
2. Who are retreats suitable for?
Ideal for singers, authors, couples, narrators. actors or anyone seeking creative focus and professional guidance in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town.
3. When are retreats available?
Primarily at weekends, with Friday and Saturday night stays. Additional dates may be available during holidays or festivals.
4. Is accommodation included?
Yes. Stay in private, comfortable accommodation beside the studio, perfectly suited for one or two guests. Please note, we use a Murphy pull down double bed size.
6. Can couples share a retreat even if only one records?
No there are no kitchen faciities beside a fridge freezer and kettle. The Royal Mile is surrounded by cafés and restaurants, offering plenty of choice within a short walk.

7. What do I need to bring?
Just your creative ideas. We supply all studio gear, instruments, and recording facilities. All of our retreats and experiences are guided by experienced producer Iain McKinna

Yes. Additional nights or studio hours can be arranged for an agreed supplementary fee.
